Delcrete® Elastomeric Concrete/Steelflex® Strip Seal Expansion Joint System has been utilized on hundreds of bridges worldwide as an alternative to more labor intensive, cast-in-place expansion joint rehabilitation solutions.
Answer: D.S. Brown does not have restrictions on width or depth dimensions for Delcrete installation on bridge expansion joints. While there are no limitations on length, width, or depth, installations of widths over 5’ may require specialized equipment in order to reach the center of the block-out to finish the top.
Delcrete is self-leveling so proper installation is critical to Delcrete’s performance. For proper bonding, fill to level at one end of the joint and then move down the joint. Adding material to low spots after the Delcrete has already cured can cause delamination and joint failure.
Learn more about Expansion Joint Systems
Since the early 1960s The D.S. Brown Company has provided expansion joint systems and structural bearing assemblies for bridges around the globe. Bridge expansion joint systems are directly exposed to vehicular wheel loads and, therefore, must resist dynamic forces causing fatigue and wear. In addition, these expansion joint systems must remain watertight to protect the bridge superstructure and substructure from corrosion.
