How should I move the bearings once they are on the jobsite?

D.S. Brown is one of the leading suppliers of structural bearing assemblies - Versiflex™ HLMR pot and disc style, spherical, seismic isolation and elastomeric bearing assemblies.

Answer: The contractor is responsible for generating lifting procedures for picking and moving/placing bearings at the job site.  It is recommended that the shipping straps, when provided, remain on bearing assemblies until they are positioned in place - disassembly of bearings is not permitted without written consent and instructions from the D.S. Brown company.  Care should be given to lift the assembly from the undersides or designated lifting points/devices only to avoid damage.  Customers should consult with D.S. Brown if they have questions/concerns regarding handling of bearings for a specific project.

Bearings 33
The selection of an appropriate bearing assembly is based on the magnitude of vertical and horizontal forces transmitted through the bearing assembly, as well as the amount of displacement and rotation of the superstructure elements. In addition, special attention to the bearing assembly design may be necessary when, for example, larger than normal horizontal loading or uplift situations exist.
